Kathy Donovan Bio

Now entering her second year at Elevate Community School, Kathy Donovan serves as our Cultural Arts Guide, a unique role designed to help weave creativity, culture, and community throughout the school experience. Rather than teaching a traditional art class, Kathy collaborates with teachers, students, artists, and community partners to create meaningful, hands-on experiences that inspire curiosity, self-expression, and connection.

Kathy holds degrees in Studio Art/Interior Design and Art History, experiences that continue to shape her creative approach to education. After many years in the interior design field, she followed her passion for teaching by earning her Montessori certification through the Montessori Teaching Institute of Atlanta and completing a year-long practicum in a Charleston Montessori classroom. She has also taught visual arts and enrichment in private schools throughout the Charleston area, blending artistic exploration with child-centered, hands-on learning.

As Cultural Arts Guide, Kathy helps bring long-term creative projects, artist collaborations, cultural experiences, and interdisciplinary learning to life across our campus. Whether students are creating collaborative artwork, connecting with local artists, exploring traditions from around the world, or celebrating through music, storytelling, and service, Kathy's goal is to help cultivate a school culture where creativity is woven into everyday learning.

Kathy believes the arts have the power to bring people together, spark imagination, and deepen learning across every subject. She loves helping students discover new ways to express themselves while fostering confidence, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation for creativity.

Outside of school, Kathy enjoys creating art, spending time with family and friends, and finding inspiration in the beauty of everyday life.
